FLES4BRAIN launched - Full length educational sponsorship for brilliant but highly disadvantaged children

The Full length educational sponsorship for brilliant but highly disadvantaged children otherwise, FLES4BRAIN has been launched in Ghana. This project under the management of elghana is identifying children living in impoverished communities who are brilliant to raise as models for the communities to value education and invest in education of their children seriously and not as a mere obligation. We also hope that these children shall provide additional hands and brains in providing development solutions to such communities.

The children to be identified with the support of local educational directorates, shall be offered full educational sponsorship, providing them learning materials, school uniforms, shoes and others to make the difficulties they encounter in their education minimized or overcome. Their educational fees and needs shall be provided fully by Elghana but they shall still leave in their family homes. In communities where there is no electricity, the selected children shall be provided with lamps and batteries on timely occasions to enable them learn during the evening hours too.

Through selected penpal program, these students shall communicate through letters with other brilliant students of their peers in developed nations. These friends from the developed world shall serve as positive mentors and inspirers, and also facilitate our intentions to make the children globally inclined.

In their years in high school, Elghana shall provide a well furnished educational hostel to run summer programs and competitions among these students as a strategy to challenge them to do more, motivate them and unite them. We foresee in the next fifteen years to start raising national leaders and professionals from this program to support the larger and strong war against poverty.

Elghana shall lunch a program to invite you all to virtually adopt a child under our program and support them after we have gained significant growth. We entreat you to put hands on deck to war against poverty by raising additional warriors from the battlefields.

The program shall be introduced in all our working countries on gradual basis.

Advice of past/current volunteers for future volunteers

David Russell says: To incoming or newly arrived volunteers I would say be thankful that you have this opportunity, be patient as you adjust, and pay close attention to everything you experience.

Kathy Sweeney says: Plan to stay as long as you can - you'll never want to leave. Don't pack traveller's cheques (unless you'll be in a big city like Accra or Kumasi, because smaller banks won't accept them.) Pack some books, and a flashlight for when the power goes out. Go with an open mind, don't worry, and just have fun!
