We hope that by connecting with Elghana through a journalism internship/volunteering, we are able to interact with current and prospective journalist and impact our experience and passion into their minds, thereby sowing a seed that will in the near future help us bring the very problems we seek to address to the attention of the world to attract more people to pick concern and take steps in their own ways or with Elghana to increase our efforts in changing these conditions.

Our programmes in journalism offer a unique opportunity for volunteers to do an internship in any aspect of journalism. Media jobs with media companies are very competitive. To increase their chances, a lot of people seeking media work experience participate in volunteer journalism. Have a feel of journalism in a foreign country by experiencing journalism in Ghana, Kenya, Uganda or Liberia.

For those wishing to pursue a career in journalism, one of the keys to success will be the extent of your experience and your understanding of the industry. An internship overseas could provide you with the perfect opportunity to develop your skills and gain valuable work experience in the sector you wish to work in. These voluntary projects are a fantastic way of gaining first-hand experience of journalism in a developing country.

Learn more about the economic, political and social situations in Africa, as you bring your enthusiasm and experience to this exciting internship. A complex and dynamic continent where politics and social patterns are constantly changing, Africa offers a good opportunity for you to experience a lot. And Elghana provides you with this opportunity. No previous journalism experience is required. However you should be fluent in English, a journalist, writer, bloger or a prospective one for that matter. The programmes are available for anyone on a gap-year looking to get into a related university course, or those looking for relevant work experience following graduation, or more experienced journalists looking for an international experience to get their journalism career to another level.

Working alongside local journalists and other international volunteers, you will be given a range of responsibilities. Depending on your interest and/or previous experience, you may be behind-the-scene or in front of the camera. You can choose to work on our Print Journalism placement or on the Broadcast placement. In the print journalism placement, you could be working for a local sports newspaper, a general interest newspaper or magazine. You will be involved in the day to day gathering of news and coverage of events. Orientation is giving. On whichever placement you choose, you will be getting very real, hands-on experience and the opportunity to make a valid contribution.
