Volunteers arriving at their hotel. Packed all you needed?

Volunteers arriving at their hotel. Packed all you needed?

The expenses you should expect for your trip include your air-fare, visa application fee, travel clinic cost (yellow fever and hepatitis immunizations, Malaria medication), travel gear (may include mosquito nets, bug repellent spray and cream, flip-flops, worldwide electric plug adapter, voltage converters), meals expenses, hotel accommodation for group volunteering program and host family accommodation for non-group volunteering, transportation and entrance fees to places of interest.

You might also consider shopping money to buy souvenirs, and money to buy drinks on days you go out. The average cost depends on the country you fly from. It is cheaper to fly from some countries than others and the season you opt to buy your tickets are also factors that come to play. Some medical insurance or travel insurance cover travel clinic services. It is easy for them to say no, if you use a different term, though they may understand what you mean, they just want to save themselves money. So you need to read around before calling them to inquire if they provide coverage or not. Or maybe you look for the right one when shopping around.

We have programs helping our volunteers to raise money to cover some of these expenses. If you start early, you can raise enough to cover all expenses. Things like meals, accommodation, visit to places of interest and local transportation, we pre-arrange them, cover some of them and the others we do not cover, we call them program fees, and the volunteer is responsible for this fees. Part of the fees also enable us to fund project resources like medications, buying seeds for seedlings, parts for swings and slides, mosquito nets for street mothers, protective gloves for volunteers’ use, fluoride for teeth garnishing, toothbrushes to supply the children, etc.

Our fundraising platform is an effective platform and we encourage all prospective volunteers to use it to raise funds to cover these expenses. That way we get many of you to be able to volunteer your time to come and help us because the expenses can be raised outside your pockets. You do not need to sign up to volunteer with us first before you can use our platforms, we allow you to start using it anytime, so you can hopefully have enough money to cover your expenses at the time you are ready to travel to volunteer with us.
