group healthcare volunteering medical mission volunteer work opportunities

Join our medical healthcare group volunteering work to enable us to provide health care to poor communities with no health facilities nearby in two hours drive distance, or where the people are not able to afford to pay for medical care. In these communities, our team of healthcare volunteers including doctors, nurses, PAs, NPs, and students travel with us to set up a temporal clinic and provide health care service, treatment, and referrals to the people, prioritizing children and mothers. Services we render are Malaria testing and treatment, Sexually transmitted diseases testing and treatment, skin infections diagnosis and treatment, HIV/AIDS testing and referral to counseling center for counselling and continuous provision of ARV drugs, Eyesight testing and provision of glasses to enhance vision particularly for the elderly and children, dental care and garnishing of the children’s teeth with Fluoride, providing mosquito nets for mothers to reduce infant mortality due to malaria, and general services.

Our group volunteers placements are opportunities for doctors, nurses, medical students, student nurses, pre-med, other students to volunteer in clinics in Africa.

The medical mission volunteer work is providing health care to poor villages in Africa with no healthcare facility in the sight of about 80 miles radius. The clinic set up is as follows; there is the first section for recording the name, age, and complaints of the patient electronically and on hard copy. The second section records vitals including height, weight, pressure, pulse, and temperature and updates the record. The third section is the triage station where the triage team decides what kind of help the patient needs and which section the patient goes to. After this section, the other sections are the providers’ station, dental station, lab station, eye testing station, medication station, counseling station and wound-care station. Some sections may not operate if we do not have skilled volunteers to help in those sections or if our numbers are very less to enable us to make all these sections active. If you do not have a healthcare experience, you can join our team and help at the record section or counseling section where we give you materials to study so you can help us serve the people.

Other activities for our volunteers:
Included in our program itinerary for all group volunteering programs are activities to provide cultural immersion experience, wildlife safari, and visit places and events of interest. Shopping areas to shop for souvenirs, beach drumming, and dancing, a durbar by the local chief and people, visit historic monuments and country’s landmark. So it is not only work but fun and adventure included. Help us keep poor families strong so they can work their way out of poverty and give their children a better life. Along doing this great goodness, you get to learn a thing or two from a different perspective of life and have fun to discover a new culture and places.

Accommodation and Meals: For our group volunteering programs, volunteers are accommodated in a hotel. The villages we go to serve are very poor villages, they do not have hotels so we stay in a hotel in a near town

and travel to these villages every day. Travel distance from our hotel to the villages usually is between 30 minutes and 90 minutes. Rooms are shared between two people. You can request to have a room to yourself if you are not comfortable sharing.
Dates: Our group medical volunteer work happen at specific times. We announce dates on our Facebook page. We have limited openings and they usually fill up quickly so we encourage you to like our Facebook page so you can receive notice when dates are announced. You can also subscribe to our text alert and you will receive notification when dates are announced. Alternatively, you can send in your application and we will email you with upcoming dates if inclusion deadlines are not past. To apply to do a medical volunteer work, please click here.
Expenses and Funding: The expenses to come up for your trip include your air-fare, yellow fever, malaria and hepatitis immunizations, travel gear, visa fees, meals expenses, hotel accommodation, a tour bus for all our travels, and entrance fees to places of interest. We have programs helping our volunteers to raise money to cover some of these expenses. If you start early, you can raise enough to cover all expenses. Part of these expenses makes what we classify as the program fees that we require of each volunteer. Please visit this page for information on the fundraising and the program fees.
